BEIDS: a new emphasis

The links between environmental issues such as energy, transport, pollution and sustainability, is very strong. It is sometimes hard to separate a theme from one another, especially when ecological, economical and social considerations are involved. Moreover, most users of BEIDS are interested in sustainable development and less on energy or transport matters.

In order to report more accurately on developments in the Baltic Sea Region, BEIDS will, therefore, from October 2003 onwards, issue monthly reports which will focus on the sustainable development dimension of environmental issues. Readers will still be able to search the database on previous information on energy and transport. However, from now on, the focus of BEIDS will be on sustainable development as it relates to environmental protection, conservation, education and communication across the region. This new approach is in line with the need to improve the system and modernise it in order to meet the needs of users.
